Lefkada offers some of the most spectacular unspoiled natural beaches in the Ionian but for many people the idea of exploring the island and learning its history and values is as important as spending days on the beach.
The day starts with a pick up from your accommodation and we immediately start to climb through the winding roads of Lefkada away from the hustle and bustle of the town and visitors. Stopping to have photo opportunities at any time. (Remember this is a private tour and the drivers are committed to ensuring you get the best from your day.) We visit the sleepy village of Karia once the capital of the island full of history, and we are entertained by the custodians of the Karia Folklore Museum hewn into a rock, this is a traditional home which has over the years become an important historical museum and is much loved by its custodians. We then continue to climb up into the mountains with the views becoming more spectacular and photographic until we reach the small village of Englouvi, famous for its Lentils and Lentil festival. We take a while in this sleepy little village to enjoy coffee and cake. A great time to reflect on the life of the villagers on Lefkada and the day still hasn’t finished. We now ascend even higher, stopping to view the hide out of the Greek militia and the history surrounding these brave people. Next through landscape that can only be described as lunar our final ascent is 1180m above sea level to the famous White Church Profitis Ilias. At this vantage point and clouds permitting, we can take in the Mediterranean with views of Corfu, Paxos and Antipaxos and the Ionian spackled with little islands we know and love surrounded by the deep blue sea.
After working up such an appetite we venture down to the most iconic small family run Greek tavern and feast on Mommas homemade food served fresh and who can resist a cool beer or a carafe of local village wine. Time to sit under the pago da and reflect on the day, whilst the dapple rays of the sun start to dance shadows on the courtyard.
After what we hope will be an amazing experience you are then returned to your hotel, villa or yacht.

Visiting the ancient historic Santa Maura at the start of the day in the late afternoon and enjoying the history and culture of this once proud city. The trip takes you along the West Coast taking in some of the most spectacular views of the Mediterranean, to the sleepy village of Karia, once capital of the island of Lefkada. After visiting the folklore Museum and enjoying a coffee in the main square you will be driven to the perfect advantage point on the West Coast to enjoy a Greek Traditional meal and the breath-taking sunset.
Lefkada has not always been an island and there are strong historical links between Lefkada and Preveza with historical battles by land and sea and a genuine support that spans the decades. On our day trip to Preveza we are able to see the walled city of Nicopoli originally one of the largest walled cities and dating back to 31BC.
The connection to Lefkada is a sea battle of Actium. This day starts with a opportunity to stand in the very grounds where Octavian Augustus commanded the victory of this historical naval battle. With beautiful mosaic floors still in situe and many of the foundations of buildings and road it’s hard not to feel some of the history that must have taken place in this location. During the morning we take a tour around the walled city itself leading to the Amphitheatre and games track, once the home the gladiators, roman games and conquests. From there we will travel into the town of Preveza where you will be able to wonder through the older part of the town and your driver will wait for you whilst you shop and have lunch. Our final stop of the day is at the Museum in Preveza which houses many artifacts from the period before BC
